
ORVILLE ROBINSON
BUSINESS AGENT
Orville grew up in a union-strong household in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and currently resides in Springfield, Montgomery County, with his wife, Sally, and their two daughters, Jolie (19, Temple University) and Maeve (15, Springfield High School). A graduate of the five-year apprenticeship program (2005-2010), Orville is the current President and a Trustee of Steamfitters Local 420 benefit plans.
Being recognized for his dedication to learning the trade, Orville was honored with the Thomas J. Dugan Welding Award upon graduating his apprenticeship. He has continued his education through night classes in Welding, CFC Recovery, and Medical Gas Installation. Orville has worked in a variety of roles, including as a Welder, Foreman, and Steward.
Throughout his career, Orville has been a staunch advocate for political engagement, organizing “Get Out the Vote” campaigns, walking picket lines, and speaking at rallies.
Orville was elected a delegate to the 39th and 40th UA General Conventions in 2016 and 2021, respectively, and has been elected to several other leadership positions within Local Union 420, including Recording Secretary in 2019 and as a member of the Examining Board in 2016.
Since assuming the role of Local 420 President and Trustee in January 2022, Orville has dedicated himself to improving the lives of union members. As President, Orville chairs the regular membership monthly meetings and Quarterly Finance Committee meetings. He also chairs the Bylaw Committee. Additionally, Orville is an active member of the Negotiating Committee for the Mechanical Equipment Service and Building Trades Collective Bargaining Agreements.
In his capacity as Local 420 President, Orville attended the 45th and 46th Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Constitutional Conventions in 2022 and 2024, respectively, serving as Secretary of the Officer’s Report Committee. During his tenure as Trustee on the Local Union Benefit Plans, he received Multiemployer Labor Trustee Certifications and was appointed to the Empower Client Advisory Board for Taft-Hartley plans.
A committed advocate for his fellow workers, in 2024 Orville was appointed by the Montgomery County Commissioners to the Enhancing Labor Relations and Worker Protection Board. The board’s work focuses on creating guidelines to promote the use of Responsible Contractor Ordinances and Project Labor Agreements, as well as advocating for organized labor.
Orville has long been an active delegate with the AFL-CIO, serving in multiple roles since 2013 and is currently the Vice President of the Montgomery County AFL-CIO. He has led endorsement interviews for local and state political offices and spearheaded fundraising efforts for the Committee on Political Education.
