MICHAEL "SCHWARTZIE" SCHWARTZ

EXAMINING BOARD

Michael is a proud first-generation Steamfitter and a 20-year member of Local Union 420. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he now resides in Bensalem, Bucks County, with his wife, Linda, their two children, Owen, 19, and Eva, 16, and their two dogs, Tink and Coco.

Michael's journey began with his graduation from Local Union 420’s apprenticeship program in 2010, when he was elected class steward and honored with the Thomas J. Dugan Achievement Award for Welding. His commitment to continuous learning is evident, as he attends JAT classes at the training center and holds over 12 welding certifications.

Michael has worked in the industrial, pharmaceutical, and commercial sectors, and in fabrication shops. Throughout his career, he has held positions as a Sketcher, Fitter, Welder, Foreman, and Steward. He takes great pride in imparting safety knowledge and craftsmanship to apprentices. Currently, he is employed as a Sketcher with A.T. Chadwick Co. Inc.

Michael's dedication to his Local Union is unwavering. Michael has served his Local Union in various capacities, including participating in literature drops, hand-billing, elections, and picket lines. He proudly represented Local Union 420 as a delegate at the United Association’s 40th Convention.

As a member of the Examining Board, he collaborated with other board members to modernize and implement a new BTJ upgrade exam. He also serves on the By-Laws Committee, as well as a member of the Bucks County AFL-CIO. In 2023, Michael was honored to be appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority. During his tenure on the BCWSA board, Michael was instrumental in introducing and implementing a stronger RCO, with language that includes mandatory apprentice graduation rates and prevailing wage rates for off-site fabrication. This initiative led to signatory contractors being added to the emergency contractor list and prequalifying signatory contractors for BCWSA work.

Michael is excited about the future and looks forward to continuing his dedicated service to Local Union 420 in this role, with your support.
